Ex-Detroit Lion ordered tried on sex charges
ROSEVILLE (AP) -- Former Detroit Lions player Tommie Boyd will be tried on charges of having sex with a teenage girl he coached at Fraser High School.
A Macomb County judge ruled Wednesday that the 38-year-old Boyd should stand trial on charges of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct and accosting a minor for immoral purposes. Boyd remained held on $300,000 bond.
A 16-year-old testified during Boyd's preliminary hearing that they had sex at a motel last July after he offered her $5,000, but that he gave her only $200.
Boyd's attorney, Todd Flood, called the teen's testimony "a little far-reaching."
Boyd, of Macomb County's Shelby Township, played wide receiver for the Lions in 1997 and 1998. He also is charged with having sex with another teen girl in 2006.
