Gala celebrates Mediation Center's 20th anniversary
With Oakland Mediation Center's twentieth anniversary just around the corner, affiliates of the not-for-profit organization are delighted to celebrate twenty years of service in the community with the supporters, volunteers, and sponsors who have made it all possible.
"Twenty Years of Magic-The Magic of Mediation" Gala will be hosted by Oakland Mediation Center on Friday, April 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Auburn Hills Marriott-Pontiac at Centerpoint. Individual awards will be presented to honor the extraordinary efforts of Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Wendy Potts; retired Judge Stephen Cooper; Thomas M. Cooley Law School Dean John Nussbaumer, Auburn Hills Campus; and practicing attorney and mediator Jon H. Kingsepp.
"Twenty Years of Magic-The Magic of Mediation" Gala will open its doors to the general public for a ticket price of $50 which includes a cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres and strolling entertainment, a multi-course dinner, and an awards ceremony. Seasoned magician and event headliner Andrew Bennett will conclude the evening with his magic show. A cash bar will be available to all patrons at 6 p.m. and will remain open for the duration of the Gala.
OMC acknowledges the generous sponsorships of Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace, Rose Printing Services, American Staffing Assurance Company, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and William & Kathy Brodhead, all of whom have allowed the celebration to become a reality.
Since its inception in 1989, Oakland Mediation Center continues to reign as the state's leading community dispute resolution center, exceeding the number of cases handled by any other center or practice. OMC attributes its success to a small staff of eight passionate employees, more than 80 dedicated volunteer mediators, and countless supporters within the Oakland County Community and beyond. OMC receives cases through attorneys, courts, agencies, and schools, in addition to individuals who choose mediation over the slow, expensive, and often adversarial route of litigation.
Since 1990, Oakland Mediation Center has mediated 34,297 conflicts, serving 76,300 individuals, and 30,092 businesses. Since the inception of its Youth Education program in 1999, OMC has empowered 76,973 youth to peacefully resolve conflict themselves through the following programs: "Second-Step," violence prevention; "Peers Making Peace," peer-mediation; "Olweus Bullying Prevention;" "Truancy Prevention;" and Victim-Offender Mediation. Funds from "Twenty Years of Magic-The Magic of Mediation" Gala will be used to expand youth programs to address Michigan's drop out crisis and offset general operating expenses.
