For The Seventh Generation to hold fundraiser May 1 at Park West Gallery
For The Seventh Generation will host its third annual fund-raiser, In Seventh Heaven, on Saturday, May 1, at Park West Gallery, 29469 Northwestern Hwy. in Southfield. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 each, or $600 for groups of ten.
The festive gala, set throughout the elegant 63,000 square-foot gallery, will feature art, live music, food and wine. But the highlight will be an unusual and exciting auction. "The auction actually begins April 13," explained committee member Maureen Movold. "On that date, guests can log on to www.seventhheaven.cmarket.com and begin bidding on the hundreds of quality items that have been donated for the auction. The online auction will then close on April 28 at nine p.m., when all items will be moved to Park West Gallery for the silent auction on April 25. Once again, Albert and Amelia "Mitsie" Scaglione will generously conduct a live art auction featuring works from their gallery."
Donors so far include Arcadia House Bed and Breakfast, Art Is In Market, Knightsbridge Antique Dealers, Rancho Armadillo (Costa Rica), Scott Colburn Boots & Western Wear, Wright and Zelazny DDS, PC, Mother Fletcher's and many local restaurants. Additional donations are still being accepted.
For The Seventh Generation was established in 2005 by the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation, in cooperation with the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court and the Michigan Department of Human Services. The non-profit, community-based volunteer program provides non-law related services to wards of the juvenile court.
"We serve as a clearing house to match those willing to volunteer their time, talents or merchandise with those children identified by our juvenile court as needing such assistance," explained Lorraine Weber, executive director of the DMBA Foundation.
The need for such help is great. The Wayne County Family Division, Juvenile Section is designed to take care of the basic needs of our children. Sadly, these kids have a lot of other needs that go far beyond the court's ability to solve. And with increasingly limited resources, the court can only do so much.
Through this innovative program, non-legal service providers such as doctors, dentists and other professionals, as well as retail and service related companies, are asked to donate one item or service per year to one ward of the Wayne County Juvenile Foster Care system. It's an investment with a big payoff.
Funds raised during the In Seventh Heaven gala will be used to support the daily operations of the program. Last year's event raised more than $25,000, and event organizers are hoping to meet or surpass that amount.
"We recognize that the economy has taken its toll on all of us this year, but that can't stop us from helping the many young people who are relying on us for assistance," Movold said. "If every single one of us helped just one child, what kind of impact would that have?"
