'Litigating a Complex Case' focus of talk with federal judges, April 19

The Federal Bar Association Eastern District of Michigan Chapter's Complex Commercial Litigation Committee will present its inaugural seminar on the topic of "Litigating a Complex Case--A Discussion with the Bench" on Monday, April 19, starting at 2 p.m. in Room 115 of the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. Join jurists from the Eastern District of Michigan bench as they discuss issues unique to trying a complex case including the effectiveness of time limits during trial and the importance of, and best practices for, educating the court about the case prior to trial. The seminar will explore: * "Presenting a Big Picture Understanding in Pretrial Proceedings" with panelists: U.S. District Court Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen, Eastern District of Michigan, and U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Michael Hluchaniuk * "Creative and Efficient Presentation of the Jury Trial in Complex Litigation" with panelists U.S. District Court Judges Avern Cohn and Robert H. Cleland, Eastern District of Michigan, and attorney Jerry Galante of Plunkett Cooney PLLC who is a past president of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). There will also be a presentation from the IADC Jury Trial Research Project. A reception will follow the seminar at the Westin Book Cadillac for a socializing opportunity.
