Volunteers sought for 'CLEAN UP 2010'
Oakland County Commissioner Tim Burns (D-Troy) announces his annual community litter pick-up initiative, CLEAN UP 2010, along the city's gateway corridors of Troy and Clawson on Saturday, April 24.
"CLEAN UP 2010" is meant to promote keeping the environment clean, green, and communities beautiful in recognition of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and the Great American Cleanup. County Commissioner Tim Burns welcomes residents to volunteer to participate in "CLEAN UP 2010." Because of the need to purchase supplies and designate area assignments for volunteers, advance registration is required to participate. For additional and sign up information, visit www.timothyburns.org. Participants must pre-register no later than Thursday, April 22, on Earth Day.
Volunteers will meet at the Hunter Community Center in Clawson, located at 509 Fisher Court or at Raintree Park Picnic Shelter, located at John R. between Big Beaver and Wattles at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 24, for safety instructions, supplies, and assignments. The clean up will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a free lunch at Raintree Park beginning at 12:30 p.m., after each group completes their assigned area. Volunteers must be able to walk at least one mile without assistance and have the flexibility to bend over to pick up times along the roadway. Volunteers under 15 years of age must be accompanied by and adult. Latex gloves, safety vests, and trash bags will be provided to each volunteer. This event will take place rain or shine.
