Students to attend Youth in Government Day

On Thursday, April 22, beginning at 9 a.m., the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will welcome students from across the county at the Annual Youth in Government Day as part of National County Government Month. Students will tackle budget issues facing the county and learn from top officials about the budget process.
The program will kick-off in the Board of Commissioners' Auditorium, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road. These high school youth commissioners will stake their claim in county government, as part of the annual Youth in Government Day while getting hands on training from county commissioners and the county administration about the inter-workings of government.
This more than 30 year tradition of youth leadership training and civics in action exercise proves to be an exciting and enlightening event. Students gain a better understanding of the political and governmental process when meeting officials and observing the Board of Commissioners in action. Students get the unique opportunity of emulating the entire process in youth committee sessions with the final portion of the program culminating into the youth board meeting.
