Lax, Stein 'and Associates' take to the stage on April 19

A reunion of sorts--featuring local attorneys Jerry Lax and Ed Stein--will take place at Performance Network Theatre on Monday April 19 at 7 p.m.
Five actors who shared the stage in the final professional series show at the theatre's old space (408 West Washington, the artist hub known as "the technology center," now the home of the YMCA) will reunite to revamp their roles in selected scenes from Lax and Stein's "...and Associates."
Ten years ago, in April of 2000 the success of "...and Associates" launched the campaign to move downtown and helped the theatre gather a new base of supporters.
Now, 10 years later, five actors will revisit the comedy, described as "hilarious," about a trial lawyer gone bad and his road back to redemption.
"Habeas Theatre audiences will delight at scenes from the play staged in a reader's theatre format and enjoy an ancient Latin themed appetizer buffet, complete with abundant wines," a spokesperson said. In addition, an onstage interview with Lax and Stein will round out the evening.
The performance also will feature video of the original performance, featuring never before seen footage of one of its stars, the late Phyllis Wright. Wright was a beloved community leader and actress who graced the stages of all of the major theaters in Ann Arbor.
In the play, Wright appeared as a sweet elderly client who was in a bad car accident but refuses to sue anyone frustrating her lawyer, Geoffrey Rubenfire.
Tickets are on sale now, and "Taste of the Season (Party for the Arty)" catalogs are available by calling the theatre box office at (734) 663-0681.
More information also is available online at www.performancenetwork.org. Tickets are $80.
The tax-deductible portion of this event is $40/person. Proceeds from "Taste of the Season (Party for the Arty)" will benefit Performance Network's programs.
