Johannessen tribute set for April 22 by mediation council

The Family Mediation Council - Michigan announces "Mediation: A Love Story - A Tribute in Honor of Barbara Johannessen" to be held on Thursday, April 22, at the Peking House in Royal Oak beginning at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers and drinks followed by a dinner and Tribute Roast. Johannessen is an attorney from Rochester Hills who is known nationally for her many contributions to dispute resolution generally and to family mediation specifically. Emcee is Carrie Cole and comedian Lynn Liberato will appear. Dress is casual. Johannessen is a SCAO approved domestic relations mediator and trainer for general civil mediation, qualified under Michigan state law and serves as an Arbitrator for the FINRA (formerly National Association of Securities Dealers and NYSE). She is a mediator for the U.S. Postal Service (U.S.P.S.), the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the Michigan Department of Career Development - Rehabilitation Services. She serves as adjunct instructor at Wayne State University and University of Detroit - Mercy School of Law. In September of 2009 Johannessen was honored as the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Service Award from the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section of the State Bar of Michigan. She served as 2006 chair of the ADR Section of the Michigan Bar and as Chair and contributor to a number of its committees, activities and its long-range planning taskforce. In addition to her many Michigan services, she is a major contributor to the Advanced Negotiation and Dispute Resolution Institute (ANDRI) programs.
