The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is partnering with state legislators, dedicated volunteers, and other health organizations to bring its health message to Lansing on Wednesday, April 28.
The NKFM will host Diabetes and Kidney Day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers will convene in the House Office Building, Mackinac Room on 124 S. Capitol Avenue before meeting with legislators about the importance of preventing and managing kidney disease and diabetes through state programs.
State funding cuts are again threatening programs that help prevent and manage diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney disease. In Michigan, one in 10 adults has diabetes and diabetes causes 42 percent of kidney failure.
However, both diabetes and kidney disease can often be prevented or delayed with early detection, treatment and lifestyle changes.
Following Diabetes and Kidney Day, the NKFM will host the 2010 Champion of Hope Tribute Dinner at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.
This event will recognize state senators and representatives who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of health care and public policy.
The 12th annual event will begin at 5:30p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and an awards presentation.
To register for Diabetes and Kidney Day or to purchase a ticket for Lansing Champion of Hope, please contact the NKFM at 800-482-1455.
