Rally of Writers features Michigan authors

By Roberta M. Gubbins
Legal News
Thomas Lynch, poet, author of three collections of poems and three books of essays, was the keynote speaker for the Rally of Writers workshop held at Lansing Community College, West Campus. The event, sponsored by the Skaaldic Society of Lansing, is a day-long writing conference held for the past 23 years in Lansing, MI.
Lynch lives in Milford, Michigan where he has been the funeral director since 1974. His talk, "So much depends upon a red wheelbarrow," a poem by William Carlos Williams, set the tone for the day where poetry, essay-writing, historical fiction, non-fiction and the artful opening were among the topics presented.
All the presenters throughout the day were, like Lynch, Michigan authors. Among them was Michigan Court of Appeals Judge, William C. Whitbeck, who spoke on the topic of turning extensive research into artful fiction. Whitbeck's novel, To Account for Murder, a legal thriller. The story is based on the assassination of Michigan State Senator by the Purple Gang in 1945. Scheduled for publication by Permanent Press in November of this year, the book is about murder, sex, corruption and politics--all themes that make for a great tale.
