Women in the Law focus of Super Panel Discussion

The Wayne State University Law Alumni Association (LAA) is pleased to host the Women in the Law Super Panel Discussion from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, in the Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. The event will offer Wayne Law alumni and students the opportunity to hear from and network with accomplished women lawyers. A number of Wayne Law alumnae will serve as panelists, including Margaret Raben, '86, partner, Gurewitz and Raben PLC; Angela Davison, '02, associate general counsel, Amcor Rigid Plastics; Aleksandra Miziolek, '80, director of Dykema's automotive industry group; Anne MacIntyre, '93, president, Community Central Wealth Management; and U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds, '76, Eastern District of Michigan. Panelists will address real-world topics such as their typical day, important skills, career paths, balancing work and family, and challenges faced by women in the law profession. "The dramatic increase of women in the profession has not overcome traditional obstacles to women's success," said LAA President Suzanne Johnson, '84. "We can continually learn from the advice of our predecessors, and we offer this event as an opportunity for personal contact with women who have attained the highest levels in the profession." Event organizer and alumna Kim Yapchai, '93, director of corporate ethics, Masco Corporation, added, "Women constitute about 50 percent of the entering class, and 14 of the current Top 50 Women Michigan Super Lawyers are alumnae. This panel provides alumnae a dynamic opportunity to learn from each other and to share their experience and wisdom with students." There will be a light reception following the panel discussion. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available for $4.25 in Structure #1 in front of the Law School on Palmer Street. Register for this event at http://events.wayne.edu/rsvp/2010womeninlaw/#rsvp. For additional information, call the Wayne Law Development and Alumni Relations Office at (313) 577-3113. The Wayne State University Law Alumni Association is an independent organization of law alumni, and a sub-unit of the Wayne State University Alumni Association. Alumni serve on the LAA Board of Directors and as officers who govern the association. Alumni participate in and plan a number of events each year, as well as provide special assistance to the Law School community as advocates, mentors and fundraisers. Published: Fri, Apr 30, 2010
