SBM will celebrate Law Day with radio broadcast and awards luncheon

State Bar of Michigan officials will commemorate Law Day on Monday, May 3 with a two-hour broadcast on Michigan Talk Network's ''Michael Patrick Shiels in the Morning'' and an essay awards luncheon at the Michigan Hall of Justice. The 2010 Law Day theme is ''Law in the 21st Century: Enduring Traditions, Emerging Challenges.'' In 1958, Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day as an opportunity to showcase America's great heritage of liberty, justice and equality under the law. ''Every year the State Bar joins local bar associations, businesses, schools and other organizations to improve the public's understanding of our justice system,'' said Charles R. Toy, president of the State Bar of Michigan. Toy will be joined by Jeffrey F. Paulsen of Paulsen Law Firm, Andrew S. Doctoroff of Honigman, Miller, Swartz & Cohn and other State Bar officials on ''Michael Patrick Shiels in the Morning'' from 7 to 9 a.m. During the second hour, listeners can call in legal questions at 1-888 -900-9966. Also in conjunction with Law Day, the State Bar will host an awards luncheon at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing at noon. Winners of a statewide essay contest will be honored. They include: Michael Bobzin, L'Anse Cruise Middle School North, 6th grade; Aleanna Siacon, L'Anse Cruise Middle School East, 7th grade, and Carlee Stanton, L'Anse Cruise Middle School East, 8th grade. The guest speaker will be Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly of the Michigan Supreme Court. Published: Thu, Apr 29, 2010
