State Trooper faces evidence tampering charge
Attorney General Mike Cox has announced the arraignment of a Sgt. Michael Scott Oliver, age 42, of the Michigan State Police.
Oliver is charged with Misconduct in Office and Tampering with Evidence.
Oliver is accused of gaining unauthorized access to evidence secured within the Alpena Michigan State Police Post while on duty in July 2008.
The evidence, a computer, was related to an open case that Oliver was not assigned to investigate.
It is alleged that as a result of Oliver's contact with the evidence it was permanently altered.
Oliver faces up to five years in prison if convicted of the charges that include: one count of Misconduct in Office, a five year felony; and one count of tampering with evidence, a four year felony.
The Defendant was arraigned recently before Judge Theodore O. Johnson at the 88th District Court in Alpena, Michigan.
