Two attorneys with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP are contributing co-editors of the new publication, "A Legal Guide to Doing Business in the Asia-Pacific."
Andrew H. Thorson, a partner and chair of the International Business Group, and Albert Vincent Y. Yu Chang, an associate in the group, led the effort to produce the 470-plus page book, which provides an overview of the legal frameworks for doing businesses in 14 countries and jurisdictions, including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines. Topics include:
* General legal aspects of doing business in Asia.
* Establishing a business presence.
* Foreign investments.
* Operational issues.
* Litigation and dispute resolution.
Additionally, Craig Meurlin and Mai Nishikubo, both from Warner Norcross, contributed to the book.
The book is based on their collective experience practicing law and representing clients throughout Asia over the past two decades. The chapters of the book were co-written by U.S. business attorneys and foreign counsel who exemplify the legal team that would support the business operations of U.S. companies entering the Asia-Pacific region.
Thorson and Yu Chang produced this book to address a growing need for mid-sized businesses to have practical information regarding the legal jurisdictions in which they are doing business. Attorneys in the International Business Group at Warner Norcross regularly advise U.S. companies in connection with their transactions in Japan, China and Korea, and have recently established operations for Michigan clients in China, Hong Kong, Korea, India and Vietnam.
The guide is a joint project between the Asia-Pacific and China Law committees of the American Bar Association Section of International Law.
The guide is published by ABA Publishing, which called the book "an essential guide to the legal frameworks that govern business relationships" in Asia and the Pacific.
