Sheriff's deeds show increase over '09

Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing and Register of Deeds Curtis Hertel report today that the number of Sheriff's Deeds in Ingham County for April 2010 compared to April 2009 increased by 50%. ''The current numbers are not good. The encouraging news, however, is the number of Sheriff's Deeds for the first four months of 2010 is slightly less than the same time period in 2008,'' said Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing. ''The Last two quarterly reports of Realtor statistics tell us sales are up, sale prices are up, and inventories are down - which is encouraging,'' Schertzing said. In the mortgage foreclosure process, a Sheriff's Deed typically starts a six (6) month redemption period for the property. Ingham County Register of Deeds Curtis Hertel said, "this troubling news is further proof that the State and federal governments need to do more to slow this crisis. Fortunately, in this community citizens having trouble making their mortgage payments can dial 211 to speak with a mortgage advisor." Published: Thu, May 13, 2010
