Open house for retiring Kurt Berggren is set for May 24, 9:30 a.m. to12:30 p.m.

Kurt Berggren is retiring from the practice of law this month after practicing for 48 years, including 34 years in Ann Arbor. Berggren is selling his office furniture and furnishings at his office at Parkhurst House, 412 East Huron Street, and is holding an open house and sale on Monday, May 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For sale, among other items, are 10 file cabinets, a large conference table and 10 chairs, credenza, various tables, desks, bookshelves, art works, a sofa and office supplies. Call 996-0722 or 665-9571 to inquire about or arrange to view these items or come to the open house on May 24 Berggren graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1962, went into the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps, and then joined the Richmond, Virginia, firm of Hunton Williams from 1965 to 1967. After practicing with a small firm in Virginia Beach and attending graduate school at the University of Virginia, Kurt became director of the Legal Aid Society of Roanoke, Virginia, in 1970. He moved to Louisville, Kentucky, to be the director of that Legal Services program in 1972 and to a similar position in Ann Arbor in 1976. He was a visiting professor at Louisville Law School from 1974 to 1976 and at Wayne State Law School during 1978-1979. In 1979, Kurt began a private practice in Ann Arbor and also served as a part-time assistant city attorney, prosecuting city ordinance violations.
