Commissioner to speak before advisory committee on immigration laws
Oakland County Commissioner Jim Runestad will join a panel public officials on Friday, June 18, at the Michigan Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights meeting at Spencer M. Patriarch Auditorium, at Wayne State University Law School located at 471 W. Palmer in Detroit. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m.
At this meeting, the Michigan Advisory Committee will conduct a hearing to examine the proposed immigration bill that is similar to the recently enacted Arizona Bill. Runestad will present supporting statements, along with Michigan State Representative Kim Meltzer, Ken Grabowski of the Police Officers Association of Michigan, ACLU of Michigan Executive Director Kary Moss, ACCESS Executive Director Hassan Jabbar, and WSU Professor Ethriam Brammer.
Runestad is a republican, who represents the communities of White Lake and Waterford townships in District #6. He is serving his first term as an Oakland County commissioner. He has enacted the Federal E-Verify Policy in Oakland County which requires business that seek contracts with Oakland County government to only hire legal immigrants in order to obtain contracts with Oakland County government.
