The Bench Bar Culinary Challenge Committee, made up of local lawyers and judges, hosted its 3rd annual Culinary Challenge on Thursday, June 24, at the Bloomfield Hills home of Oakland County Probate Court Chief Judge Linda Hallmark.
The event featured a grill-off between lawyer team Grilled by the Hour and Grilled by the Bench, comprised of judges. Judges also pitted their appetizers and dessert recipes against one another in two separate contests. The Challenge raised more than $12,500 for charities Alternatives for Girls, Crossroads for Youth, and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Foundation's scholarship fund.
Grilled by the Hour took top honors in the grill-off. Wayne County 17th District Court Judge Karen Khalil's spinach pie won the appetizer category and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Colleen O'Brien's Knock Your Socks Off Brownies won as best dessert.
The Culinary Challenge Committee is made up of co-chairs Lavinia Biasell of Maddin, Hauser, Wartell, Roth, & Heller and Valerie Newman of the State Appellate Defender Office; Denise Alexander of Butzel Long; Oakland County 52-3 District Court Judge Lisa Asadoorian; Carol Breitmeyer of Hickey, Cianciolo, Fishman, & Finn; Carole Chiamp of Chiamp & Associates; Anne Cole-Pierce of Anne Cole Pierce PC; Nancy Glen; Oakland County Probate Court Judge Linda Hallmark; Elizabeth Jolliffe of Your Benchmark Coach; Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Kirsten Frank Kelly; Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Colleen O'Brien; Kathy Rogers; and Marcia Ross of Marcia C.
