Legal community mourns loss of attorney Migliore

By Jan Anson Oakland County Bar Association By now, much of the Oakland County legal community has learned the sad news of the untimely loss of Bloomfield Hills attorney Joseph M. Migliore Jr. at age 54 from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Migliore joined the Oakland County Bar Association when he passed the bar in 1984. He started a solo practice and immediately began building relationships with others in the bar association. He was an active and enthusiastic member of the OCBA's Probate, Estates and Trusts Committee during his entire legal career. Joseph first served as its chairperson in 1990-1991, and he answered the call of service and chaired the committee a second time in 2007-2008. He likewise was a longtime member of the OCBA's Real Estate Committee, serving as chairperson in 2005-2006. Migliore felt strongly that while the practice of law was a noble calling, it should also be enjoyable, and did his best to make committee meetings as lighthearted and informative as possible. During the year that Migliore chaired, along with vice chair Jim Porritt Jr., the committee achieved some of the best participation and camaraderie it had enjoyed in years. The Italian-American Bar Association was another of Migliore's professional associations. He became an officer of the bar association in 1994, and served as its president in 1999-2000. Migliore never forgot what it was like to be a new lawyer starting a practice and endeavored to assist new lawyers in any way he could. He was a volunteer mentor with the OCBA Mentor Program, which pairs new lawyers with experienced lawyers from whom they can learn about the practice of law. To help new lawyers acquire the tools needed to build their practices Migliore requested, and received, from the OCBA board of directors a special reduced rate for them to attend the May 13 "Got Conservatorship?" training seminar he produced. Migliore was a friend to everyone, and always had a kind word and a joke to share. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked with him at the OCBA. He is survived by his son, Justin Migliore, and a brother, Frank. Published: Mon, Jul 19, 2010
