Shakespeare Board pledges $20,000 and challenges community
Members of the Michigan Shakespeare Festival Board of Directors have pledged $20,000 and are asking supporters of the arts to match this pledge in a 20 day challenge to the community.
In the last two months, the festival has put on 15 productions in high schools, libraries and community centers bringing live theatre to children and young adults, reaching over 3,000 students.
The festival is now rehearsing its plays for this summer's public performances.
Board members are so committed to these efforts and their expansion, that they have pledged $20,000 and are challenging Michigan Shakespeare Festival supporters to match this by donating online at www.michiganshakespearefestival.com or sending checks to Michigan Shakespeare Festival, 215 W. Michigan Ave. Jackson, MI 49201.
The Michigan Shakespeare Festival is a nonprofit professional theatre founded in 1995.
Since its inception, the festival has entertained more than 40,000 people of all ages. In 2003, the festival's quality and reputation as a regional classical theatre earned it the designation as "The Official Shakespeare Festival of the State of Michigan" from Governor Jennifer Granholm and the State Senate.
2010 season performances of Romeo and Juliet, The Comedy of Errors and Driving Miss Daisy will be held through August 8.
