News (AP) - Women in housing case awarded $115,000
YPSILANTI (AP) -- A jury has awarded $115,000 to six women who said they were sexually harassed at rental housing in Ypsilanti.
The women say rental agent Glenn Johnson made unwanted sexual advances and withheld repairs and keys in an effort to coerce sexual favors.
The properties were controlled by Ronald Peterson, a Washtenaw County commissioner since 2001. The U.S. Justice Department filed the lawsuit, alleging the women's rights under federal law were violated.
Peterson is on the hook for some of the money awarded by a jury last Friday in federal court in Detroit. His lawyer says he was unaware of any harassment and that Johnson was not under his control.
Johnson's attorney claims the allegations were made up.
