Granholm announces judicial appointments

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm last week announced the following judicial appointments: Sixth Circuit Court (Oakland County) Phyllis McMillen of Waterford, most recently judge of the Oakland County 51st District Court, adjunct professor with Cooley Law School, and faculty member with the National Drug Court Institute, is appointed judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit for a term expiring Jan. 1, 2013. She replaces the Judge Mark Goldsmith who was appointed to the federal bench. McMillen is vice president of the Michigan Association of Drug Court Professionals and former president of the Michigan District Judges Association. She earned her law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law and bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. Forty-third District Court (Ferndale, Hazel Park and Madison Heights) Charles Goedert of Ferndale, most recently attorney with Dickinson Wright PLLC, is appointed judge of the Forty-third Judicial District for a term expiring Jan. 1, 2013. He replaces the Judge Robert Turner who has resigned. Goedert was formerly an attorney with Clark Hill PLC, former councilmember and mayor of the city of Ferndale, and former pre-hearing attorney with the Michigan Court of Appeals. He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and bachelor's degree from Wayne State University. Third Circuit Court (Wayne County) Lawrence Talon of Livonia, most recently assistant Wayne County prosecutor, is appointed judge of the Third Judicial Circuit for a term expiring Jan. 1, 2013. He replaces Judge Bill Callahan who has resigned. Talon was formerly an attorney with Rowe, Talon, & Jones and is a member of the Detroit Zoological Society and Rails to Trails organization. Talon earned his law degree from Wayne State University and bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
