Oakland commissioner to kick up her heels for Meals on Wheels

Oakland County Commissioner Mattie McKinney Hatchett will join a cast of local celebrities and elected officials to raise funds for Pontiac's Meals on Wheels program which serves 300 free meals to Pontiac's senior citizens in need per day.
The fundraiser titled "Dancing Under the Stars" will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, and begin at 6 p.m., at Randy's On the Lake in Pontiac, located at 800 Golf in Pontiac. Hatchett will dance the urban ballroom with her partner and dance instructor Larry Logan. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the door or in advance.
"I encourage everyone to come out and support this worthy cause which helps to feed seniors on a daily basis. This organization helps ease the economic pain facing some seniors who may have to choose between using their money to purchase a meal or pay a bill," stated Hatchett.
The need is great in the Pontiac community as expressed by Meals On Wheels Executive Rosa Randolph, who stated "An Average donation per client is 22 cents per meal in Pontiac as opposed to other Oakland County communities which average $2 to $3 per client. Pontiac Meals on Wheels also services a small number of clients in Keego Harbor and Sylvan Lake."
Pontiac Meals on Wheels has served 10,070 congregant meals and has delivered 98,369 meals to homebound seniors to date.
For additional information, contact Rosa Randolph, director of Meals on Wheels Office, at (248) 738-9088; or Commissioner Hatchett at (248) 802-0980.
