Commissioner speaks out on identity theft

Oakland County Commissioner Tim Burns will be speaking on the topic of "kNOw Fraud: How to Avoid & Prevent Identity Theft" at Clawson's Hunter Community Center (509 Fisher Court) on Monday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. Burns will discuss the various forms of ID Theft, how to avoid being a victim, and what to do if someone does steal your personal information.
The presentation is part of the Clawson's Senior Adult Programs "Life After Retirement" speaker series. The event is free to attend and open to the public of all ages interested in educating themselves on how to combat ID Theft.
Tim Burns is an attorney with experience in dealing with consumer protection issues. He currently serves as the vice chair of the County Commission's Public Services Committee which oversees the operations of the Oakland County Sheriff, Prosecutor, and Circuit Court. Burns is a graduate of University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and completed his legal clerkship with the Michigan Attorney General's High Tech Crime Unit.
