News (AP) - Wayne Law welcomes new class

Wayne State University Law School is pleased to welcome its 2010 entering class to campus. Orientation for first-year Wayne Law students began Tuesday at the Law School and continued throughout the week.
"It's a joy to welcome the entering class," said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. "I am already impressed with our incoming students' qualifications and experience and look forward to meeting each of them over the next few years. It is intriguing to look out at the class and wonder what kind of lawyers they will become and what kind of contributions they will make."
The 2010 entering class is comprised of 197 students boasting a median LSAT score of 156 and a median GPA of 3.40. Its class members represent 16 states (Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia) plus Washington, D.C., and eight countries (Canada, China, Germany, Korea, Nigeria, Poland, Sri Lanka and the United States).
Students in the 2010 entering class studied more than 40 different majors and attended more than 60 colleges and universities to obtain their undergraduate degrees. Some of these institutions include the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, Cornell University, Purdue University, Tuskegee University, Vanderbilt University, the University of California Berkeley and the University of Notre Dame.
Admitted students are chosen by the Wayne Law Admissions Committee based on academic achievement, potential and a diverse array of personal attributes.
"One of the most exciting events at the Law School is welcoming each new incoming class," said Wayne Law Assistant Dean of Admissions Ericka M. Matthews-Jackson. "This year is no exception. I look forward to watching these students grow and learn while making their mark on Wayne Law, the city of Detroit and the nation."
