Wayne Law celebrates release of 'The Color of Law' at Oct. 27 event

The Wayne State University Law School Board of Visitors, the Wayne State University Press Board of Visitors, and the Wayne Law Alumni Association are pleased to announce an event to celebrate the launch of "The Color of Law: Ernie Goodman, Detroit and the Struggle for Labor and Civil Rights," a book by Steve Babson, Dave Riddle and David Elsila. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, in Wayne Law's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. "The Color of Law" is a biography of Ernie Goodman, a 1928 Wayne Law alumnus, Detroit lawyer, and political activist who played a key role in numerous social justice cases during his nearly 50 years of practicing law. "Ernie Goodman was a true fighter for justice," said Peter Hammer, Wayne Law professor and director of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights. "Across a wide range of social issues, his life stands as a testimony to what courage and hard work can accomplish when guided by a strong moral compass." The event will include a program at 5:30 p.m. and will conclude with a reception. The authors will be on hand to sign copies of the book. The event will also highlight Wayne Law's Public Interest Law Fellowship Program, which helps students gain practical legal experience while providing legal services to underserved constituencies.
