ROYAL OAK (AP) -- Royal Oak police say some of the 1,900 parking tickets issued during a popular Detroit-area summer arts festival will be dismissed.
Most of the $50 citations were issued Sep. 3-6 for violating a permit-parking-only zone set up in the city's downtown area during Ford Arts, Beats & Eats. The annual Labor Day weekend event drew hundreds of thousands of people.
Deputy Chief Corrigan O'Donohue tells the Daily Tribune of Royal Oak that some tickets shouldn't have been issued because the permit zone's boundaries were unclear. He said officials are reviewing tickets on a case-by-case basis.
The tickets would net the city $95,000.
O'Donohue said parking was the weakest part of the city's plan aimed at keeping festival traffic out of the neighborhoods and preventing gridlock.
