"People should get their flu shot as soon as possible, especially older adults, young children, and people with chronic health conditions," states Kathy Forzley, manager/health officer, Oakland County Health Division. "Our experiences from last year show that prevention strategies, such as getting a flu shot, proper handwashing and staying home when you are sick, do help to reduce the risk of getting the flu."
Flu shots are available to individuals age 6 months or older. Flu vaccine is not recommended for people who are allergic to eggs or flu vaccine, had a serious reaction to flu vaccine in the past, previously developed Guillain-Barre syndrome within six weeks of getting a flu shot, or have a fever.
