American Constitution Society to explore Innocence Project

The Michigan Chapter of the American Constitution Society presents "The Fight for Innocence" on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 12:30 p.m. at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. With the dwindling resources available to fund indigent criminal defense, the risk of convicting the innocent is as great as it has ever been. In addition, the narrowing of habeas corpus relief has made it exceedingly difficult to free the wrongly-convicted. The students and faculty of the Innocence Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School are on the front lines of the fight to exonerate the innocent convicted defendants who linger in prisons. Bridget McCormack, the co-director of the Innocence Project, will discuss the Clinic's mission and the many challenges it faces as it attempts to carry out that mission. She will also describe some of the Clinic's most significant victories and how the Clinic has proven the innocence of those condemned to lengthy prison terms.
