Sister of ex-Detroit mayor goes before grand jury

DETROIT (AP) -- Kwame Kilpatrick's sister has appeared before a federal grand jury looking into Detroit City Hall corruption during the time her brother was mayor.

The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report that Ayanna Kilpatrick spent a few hours Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

Attorney Jerome Barney tells the newspaper that his client is not a target of the investigation.

Ayanna Kilpatrick did not speak with reporters.

Kwame Kilpatrick also has been indicted on federal fraud and tax charges connected to a civic fund bearing his name. His sister had spent time on the civic fund's board.

Her brother is serving at least 14 months in prison for violating probation in two 2008 criminal cases.
