Jay Vincent to plead guilty in Internet fraud case

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- Former NBA and Michigan State star Jay Vincent has agreed to plead guilty to two crimes in a $2 million Internet scam.

Vincent has agreed to plead guilty to mail fraud and filing a false tax return. The 10-page deal with his signature was filed last Friday in federal court in Grand Rapids.

Vincent is due in court today. Prosecutors say he and an associate defrauded people by charging them to become certified as home inspectors.

The court filing doesn't list Vincent's likely sentence. But prosecutors have agreed to recommend a sentence at the low end of the guidelines when they're calculated.

Vincent will owe $110,000 in unpaid taxes but that figure could grow.

He and Magic Johnson played on the 1979 Michigan State national championship team.
