Oakland County Health Division kicks off flu season

Flu shots will be available at Health Division offices in Pontiac, Southfield, and Walled Lake beginning Monday, Oct.11. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Registration is now open. Pre-registration is preferred at www.oakgov.com/health or by calling (248) 858-7350 for North Oakland, (248) 424-7120 for South Oakland, and (248) 936-3302 for West Oakland to receive a flu shot. The system will allow clients to select the clinic location, date and time of their choice and also provides a consent form that must be taken to the clinic where they pre-enrolled. Walk-in clients will be accepted based on availability of appointment times.

Flu shots are available for $11. Online payment options include Visa, Mastercard, Medicare, and Medicaid. Walk-in payment options are Medicare, Medicaid and cash. There is a limited supply of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and Vaccines for Children (VFC) flu vaccine available for those needing financial assistance.

Flu shots are available to individuals' age 6 months or older. Flu vaccine is not recommended for people who are allergic to eggs or flu vaccine; had a serious reaction to flu vaccine in the past; previously developed Guillain-Barre syndrome within six weeks of getting a flu shot; or who have a fever.
