Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson honored four individuals for their numerous contributions making Oakland County a better place to live, work, play and raise a family at the 18th Annual Quality People, Quality County (Q2) breakfast last week at the Centerpoint Marriot in Pontiac.
Receiving accolades this year were Ron Kagan, executive director and chief executive officer of the Detroit Zoological Society; Albert Scaglione, founder and chief executive officer of Park West Gallery; and together, Oakland University President Dr. Gary Russi and retired Beaumont Hospitals President and CEO Ken Matzick.
"All four honorees are making an impact that will continue to improve the quality of life in Oakland County and southeast Michigan for years to come," Patterson said. "They truly deserve this year's Q2 award."
Kagan was honored for developing award-winning and nationally-recognized facilities and programs at The Detroit Zoo. Scaglione's philanthropy through his Park West Foundation and his Park West CARES initiative earned him a spot among this year's recipients. Russi and Matzick were recognized for their efforts to create the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, expected to have a multi-billion dollar impact on the region's economy.
Past recipients of the Q2 Award since 1993 when Patterson first started the program include: Late Hall of Fame baseball broadcaster Ernie Harwell, legendary Free Press sports writer Joe Falls, radio personality Dick Purtan, Flagstar Bank, and T&C Federal Credit Union among others.
