MACKINAC ISLAND (AP) -- A company that provides ferryboat service to Mackinac Island has sued a competitor and the island's municipal government.
The federal suit accuses them of trying to run other operators out of business.
Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry says the city of Mackinac Island plans to buy docks owned by Arnold Transit Co., then lease them back to the company in exchange for a monopoly on providing service to the island.
Shepler's says the plan violates city ordinances and antitrust laws.
In a letter last week, Mayor Margaret Doud told state legislative leaders the city is considering proposals from all three companies that serve the island and no decisions have been made.
A spokesman for Arnold Transit Co. says the suit is unjustified and premature.
