Oakland County Commissioner Janet Jackson has joined with The Author Collective (TAC) to promote literacy among area youth. The goal of the "R2Books" READ 2 BOOKS project will select at least fifty area schools, churches, or youth organizations and donate 20 TAC Book Certificates to each.
Organizations wanting to be considered for receiving the TAC Book Certificates should e-mail Nicole@44th.net before Friday, Oct. 15. Include the organization's name, contact information, and a brief description of how the organization's initiatives help area youth. All requests will be reviewed and those accepted will be notified. Based on availability the certificates will be given away.
This national campaign is requesting that all authors donate a minimum of two or more books for the cause. The goal of TAC is to distribute 10,000 books by Christmas 2010 to area students from pre K-12th grades.
Authors donating books will be featured on The Author Collective website. Books donated before October 25, 2010 will be available for students at the Michigan International Books or the International Urban Book Festival of Detroit.
From October 29-31 the Michigan International Books Festival will take place at the Laurel Park Place Mall in Livonia and from November 5-7, the Urban Book Festival of Detroit takes place at the Northland Mall in Southfield, Michigan.
