Douglas Chalgian has been elected chair of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the Michigan State Bar for 2010 - 2011.
Chalgian is a partner of Chalgian and Tripp Law Offices, with offices in Jackson, East Lansing, Battle Creek and Ithaca.
Chalgian practices exclusively in the areas of estate planning and elder law, and is certified as an elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation.
He also is the first person to chair the Probate Section who also previously chaired the Elder Law and Disability Rights Section of the State Bar.
Chalgian says he would like to use his position to further advance and update Michigan's probate laws.
"Probate attorneys are facing new challenges with the aging population and economic environment in Michigan.
"With the Michigan Trust Code now behind us, I look forward to working with the Section Council to identify and pursue new opportunities to make Michigan the best place for planners and their clients."
Chalgian is also the author of the Michigan Medicaid Planning Handbook, published by ICLE.
