State - Novi officials to wear pink to fight bullying
NOVI (AP) -- Novi officials are hoping to scare off a few bullies by wearing pink.
School and civic leaders in the city about 20 miles west-northwest of Detroit on Wednesday will promote National Bullying Prevention Day by donning pink shirts.
City spokeswoman Sheryl Walsh says the hue commonly known for the fight against breast cancer will be worn to honor a high school freshman in Nova Scotia, Canada, who was bullied in 2007 for wearing a pink shirt.
Walsh tells The Detroit Free Press it's the city's way of saying "bullying is not OK."
She said officials hope the gesture will increase awareness among children and educate parents.
