Royal Oak, Ferndale seek toned-down fun
ROYAL OAK (AP) -- The sound of success in two popular Detroit suburbs has some weary residents pleading with music-thumping bars and restaurants to tone down the fun--just a bit.
Royal Oak and Ferndale officials responding to resident complaints about the volume of fun that spills from local establishments say they are reviewing various options.
The Detroit News says Ferndale officials may hire a sound expert before establishing a new maximum sound level. Royal Oak is considering new noise and vibration standards, which would allow higher and louder levels in the downtown but provide for fines and jail time on a fourth offense. Other options include asking establishments to turn down the bass.
Some residents say they can't sleep on weekend nights because of vibrating walls caused by loud music.
