Community Legal Resources presents 'Telling Our Story'

Community Legal Resources (CLR) is hosting its 12th annual event titled, "Telling Our Story" on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, 315 E. Warren Avenue in Detroit. Detroit and the state of Michigan are in the trenches of a deep recession and vacant property crisis. Community-based action and involvement is a necessary part of rebuilding and is often led by nonprofit organizations. Volunteer attorneys are essential in building the capacity of critical nonprofit organizations. This annual event is an opportunity to connect and recognize the work of CLR's clients and partners. The event will focus on the importance of storytelling to create a shared history and sense of community. Stories will be shared that demonstrate recent community successes and the necessity to engage and empower communities to solve complex quality of life issues. Awards will be given for the outstanding volunteer attorney, law firm, partner, and community action of the year. Founded in 1998, CLR has provided more than $9 million in free legal assistance to over 900 nonprofits in Michigan and vacant property related assistance to over 200 community organizations in Detroit.
