Cooley features Veterans Day speaker, Nov. 11

On Thursday, Nov. 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Cooley Law School's Auburn Hills campus, Army Brigadier General and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael C. H. McDaniel will be the featured Veterans Day speaker hosted by the Cooley Student Veterans Organization. The program will also include the presentation of an American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., courtesy of 10th District Congresswoman Candice Miller. McDaniel is the deputy assistant secretary for Homeland Defense Strategy, Prevention and Mission Assurance. His responsibilities include oversight of Homeland Defense Strategy, Force Planning, Experimentation, Science and Technology, Mission Assurance, Intergovernmental Relations, and Department of Defense outreach to the Department of Homeland Security, state and local governments, and the private sector. He serves as the Department of Defense Congressional and White House liaison, and works on domestic Counterterrorism and Counternarcotics programs. His responsibilities in Mission Assurance include supervision of both the Department of Defense Critical Infrastructure Protection Program and the Global Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection policy. Before joining the Department of Defense, McDaniel was appointed by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm as her advisor on Homeland Security, on February 5, 2003, and he served in that capacity until July 31, 2009, while simultaneously serving as the assistant adjutant general for Homeland Security for the Michigan National Guard. He is an adjunct professor for Cooley Law School, teaching courses in Homeland Security. Published: Tue, Nov 9, 2010
