University of Detroit Mercy School of Law's national Veterans Law Clinic, Project SALUTE, will be profiled on a special Veterans Day program called "Tribute to our Troops" on Fox 2 Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The story will also air on Christmas Day at 6:30 p.m.
Project SALUTE of UDM Law is on a unique mission, hitting the highways to provide free legal advice to low income veterans who need assistance with their claims for federal veterans' disability and pension benefits. The UDM Law students involved in Project SALUTE see in a very real way how the law can be used to assist persons in need. This training and experience inculcate in many students a desire to pursue lifelong pro-bono service as part of their legal career.
Since February 2008, students, faculty, and Project SALUTE staff have toured Michigan and the country in two General Motors Corporation recreational vehicles custom designed and built to be Mobile Law Offices (MLOs). Project SALUTE's national MLO has traveled more than 60,000 miles to 21 states. Along the way, Project SALUTE is also developing a national network of pro-bono attorneys to continue to provide free legal services to the men and women who have served our country.
