HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Prosecutors are dropping sex crime charges against an 18-year-old high school student because his 14-year-old accuser hanged herself.
The teens attended Huron High School in Huron Township, 20 miles southwest of Detroit.
Last month, the girl told WJBK-TV that an older classmate forced her to have sex. He was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct and was due in court Wednesday.
The girl says other students harassed her, and her mother says her daughter was hospitalized after an overdose. The girl returned to school Monday, then came home and hanged herself.
Wayne County prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller tells the Detroit Free Press the suicide means the case can't proceed.
There's no phone listing for the older teen.
