Hazel Park volunteers join forces, help residents

HAZEL PARK (AP) -- Volunteers in Hazel Park are joining forces in an effort aimed at helping needy residents.

Archie Hensley tells The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak that the Hazel Park Community Development Coalition includes church, civic, school, city and nonprofit volunteers. The Landmark Community Church pastor says all 15 churches in the city just north of Detroit also have been asked to join the coalition.

The goal is to deliver resources more efficiently by combining resources offered by coalition members. At-risk children are one of the effort's primary targets.

A database will be created to itemize and fulfill needs in the about 18,000-resident community.

Landmark plans a shelter for people facing emergencies and a warming shelter for homeless people.
