State - Powerhouse co-founder's son gets life in prison
DETROIT (AP) -- The son of Powerhouse Gym co-founder Norman Dabish has been sentenced to life in prison in the beating death of his girlfriend in a Detroit apartment.
Twenty-four-year-old Peter Dabish was found guilty earlier this month of murder and torture for the March killing of 23-year-old Diana DeMayo.
The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press say Wayne County Circuit Judge Linda Parker sentenced Peter Dabish last Thursday to life behind bars without the chance of parole. Parker rejected a request from defense attorney Domnick Sorise to set aside the jury's torture conviction.
A medical examiner reported DeMayo received 10 blows to the head. The defense has said DeMayo's head injuries may have been caused by trips and falls while intoxicated.
Dabish's late father co-founded Powerhouse in 1975.
