Center announces graduation of mediators from Cooley Law School
Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) will graduate its fifth class of mediators from Thomas M. Cooley Law School (Cooley), Auburn Hills Campus, on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m. Oakland County Circuit Court Chief judge Nanci Grant, Doug Van Epps, director, State Court Administrative Office, Office of Dispute Resolution; and Dean John Nussbaumer, Thomas M. Cooley Law School Auburn Hills campus, will speak at the event conducted at OMC's office in Bloomfield Hills.
The class of 13 students participated in this program as a result of a partnership between OMC and Cooley. The program was developed in an effort to increase the number of mediators available to resolve conflicts in Oakland County without the need for court intervention. Students were given the opportunity to learn and to practice mediation skills.
The 13 students who participated in the program are:
* Victoria Arteaga, Grand Blanc, MI.
* Ryan Ballard, Royal Oak, MI.
* Susan Berry, Washington, D.C.
* Daniel Cieslak, Livonia, MI.
* Rikki Franz, New Baltimore, MI.
* Salim Gasso, West Bloomfield, MI.
* Ashley Jenkins, Lake Orion, MI.
* Philip Kim, Royal Oak, MI.
* Andre Laubach, Clinton Township, MI.
* Carolyn Lawrence, Fayetteville, NC.
* Nykia Leigh, Washington, NC.
* Erinn Sams, Buffalo, NY.
* Andrew Stamper, Seymour, IN.
The program creates a win-win for OMC and Cooley by providing experiential training and practical experience to Cooley students while developing highly-trained mediators.
Instructors for the program were Bonnie Hanes and David Bihl. The graduation will be held at the OMC office, 550 Hulet Dr. Suite 102 in Bloomfield Hills, at 4 p.m. For additional information, call OMC at (248) 338-4280. For more information about Thomas Cooley Law School, see www.cooley.edu.
