Federal judge steps down from Detroit water oversight job

DETROIT (AP) -- A federal judge who has dealt with water disputes between Detroit and its suburbs for 33 years has stepped down from the case.

The Detroit Free Press says U.S. District Court Chief Judge Gerald Rosen, Eastern District of Michigan, wrote in an administrative order last Tuesday that U.S. District Judge John Feikens requested the change.

The newspaper says Feikens turns 93 next week and has been ill recently.

He began oversight of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department three decades ago as part of a pollution lawsuit settlement.

The water department case was given last Wednesday to Judge Sean Cox.
