'Legally Blonde' cast finds new role feeding the hungry

Legal News
"Legally Blonde the Musical" takes place mostly at Harvard Law School, though it is not necessarily a Harvard Law School its alumnae might recognize.
For one thing, there is an awful lot of pink involved.
The musical's story, the same as the 2001 movie "Legally Blonde" and the novel by Amanda Brown of the same name, tells how sorority girl Elle Woods works to get back her boyfriend by following him to Harvard Law School. Striving to become more "serious" as the ex-boyfriend had told her he wanted, Woods discovers that she can excel in school and as an intern.
Supervised by young attorney Emmett Richmond, she is instrumental in winning a case for an innocent client, and goes on to become the class valedictorian. Elle rejects the ex-boyfriend, deciding she is now much too serious for him now, in favor of Emmett.
The show, which was co-sponsored by the law firm Miller Johnson, met great praise when it played at the DeVos Center on Nov. 23-28 in Grand Rapids.
But the cast members who are touring with the show decided they would like to be taken more seriously too, at least in terms of giving back to the communities they visit.
And they chose Grand Rapids to start.
On the Friday after Thanksgiving, glamorous cast members, including the actor who plays Emmett and the actress who plays Elle, served a meal to homeless people at God's Kitchen on Division. The kitchen, part of Catholic Charities of West Michigan, serves a meal from 2:30 to 4 p.m. each day, and survives primarily on volunteer help.
The performers were uniformly courteous, cheerful and helpful. According to ensemble member Ryan Turner, who coordinated the event, they intend to continue community service at other stops along their U.S. tour.
