Patterson salutes Oakland County's championship teams

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson today issued proclamations declaring Thursday, Dec. 9, Lake Orion High School Day in Oakland County and Friday, Dec. 10, Farmington Harrison High School Day in Oakland County in recognition of their state football titles.

Both teams made history at Ford Field in Detroit over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend when the Lake Orion Dragons varsity football team won its first state championship in Division 1 and the Farmington Harrison Hawks varsity football team captured a record 13th state title in Division 2.

"Each team had a superlative football season. I'm saluting both not only because they are from Oakland County, but because they represent hard work and excellence in their communities," said Patterson.

The Dragons triumphed over the Plymouth Wildcats 21-13 Saturday, Nov. 27, wrapping up an incredible 13-1 season in its second trip to the Division 1 championship game. The Hawks, led by coach John Herrington, triumphed over the Lowell Red Arrows 38-28 Friday, Nov. 26, capping an undefeated 14-0 season in the team's first state finals appearance since 2006.
