County scores 19th award for financial reporting
Oakland County has garnered the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2009 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This marks the 19th year in a row the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has bestowed this prestigious recognition on the Fiscal Services Division.
"Winning this award for nearly two decades in a row speaks volumes about the dedication and hard work of our Fiscal Services team," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. "The CAFR is one of the many tools we use to ensure people will invest their money in Oakland County."
Those seeking to invest in Oakland County study the CAFR. It discloses the county's finances in full detail to anyone who wants to review them. The GFOA awards the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to governments "whose comprehensive annual financial reports achieve the highest standards in government accounting and financial reporting."
Fiscal Services Manager Tim Soave said, "The entire division participates in obtaining this. However, special recognition should go to Penny Cremer, chief of Fiscal Services, who coordinates this effort; Janet Ogden, accounting supervisor who puts together some of the more complex records; and Diane Creguer who produces most of the reports."
Oakland County is a consistent winner of GFOA's three financial reporting awards. In November, the GFOA honored Oakland County with its 12th Popular Financial Reporting Award in a row. And the county has captured 13 awards for Budget Presentation--an award Oakland County is eligible for once every three years because of the county's three-year budget cycle.
