Michigan worker appeals firing for failure to urinate

LANSING (AP) -- A 16-year employee of the Michigan Department of Transportation is appealing his firing for failing to urinate on demand for a random drug test.

Forty-three-year-old Ron Koonter of Grand Ledge says a medical condition prevents him from urinating at will. The Lansing State Journal says that's confirmed by his doctor, Mark Schaar.

Koonter says he lost the job after the Oct. 25 drug test. He had a grievance hearing Nov. 22.

Transportation agency spokesman Bill Shreck says he can't comment on the case because of privacy rules.
